Small Business Wins Through GPED Teamwork:
Small Aerospace Technology Company Breaks Into Government Market

A small business participating in one of LSI GPED programs developed a new technology for the rotor aircraft marketplace. The organization provides refinement software used for helicopter tracking, balancing, bomb score measuring, and training.

As an emerging small business, the organization demonstrated their new technology to local economic development support agencies. The company requested assistance from LSI through the GPED program. Once LSI consultants saw the companies software system they recognized the industry-wide potential application within the Federal government and commercial aviation market. LSI’s GPED consultants worked with the company to introduce the software to potential clients in an effort to pre-positioning the organization and to accelerate business development.

Through the public-private partnership of the local PTAC offices and LSI GPED program, the team introduced the small business to multiple civilian and military agencies. As a result of the strategic introductions, the U.S. Air Force has approved tests of the software system on two helicopter weapons systems.

Additionally, based on our support, the organization was awarded multiple contracts with a large helicopter fleet operator and State of California (CAL FIRE). Additional demonstration efforts are likely to result in more opportunities within the military and commercial aviation markets.

“As a small business with limited resources, we couldn’t be happier with the results of our association with LSI’s GPED, and all at no cost to us. Because of the expert advice, assistance and contacts made for us by the team, we have achieved in six months’ time what it would have taken us six years to accomplish alone. We know that because of their expertise and assistance we will achieve our goals in meeting the needs of government and related commercial customers.”  - Company President

Small Business Wins Through GPED Teamwork:
Multi-Year Subcontract for Material Handling

A small organization that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to contribute to their communities has been supported by a blend of local, state, and federal dollars. Programs at within the organization are designed to help people with disabilities obtain training and employment on their own.

Through the efforts of a GPED offered by the company’s State Government, the non-profit organization has been awarded a materials handling subcontract from a large government prime contractor. The contract was awarded in January 2008 with work commencing February 2008 at Hill Air Force Base.

Representatives from the company were escorted by the members of the GPED team to an industry day at Hill Air Force Base where they were introduced to the prime contractor, for a possible teaming agreement. To further the opportunity, the GPED team arranged and hosted a site visit for the prime contractor to tour the company's facility.

Since the companies’ introduction the relationship between the prime contractor and the organization has flourished. When the prime contractor was awarded a contract at Hill Air Force Base for the DLA distribution and warehousing program, the small business was awarded a five-year subcontract for material handling. This multi-year subcontract with prime defense contractor, is one of the company’s largest, multi-year government contract.

““Without the assistance and advice from the GPED team, we may not have even known about this opportunity. Their continued expertise throughout the process was critical to winning the contract.”  -Public Information Manager
